Spring Remake Project ‘Rewind : Blossom’ Revealed!
‘Rewind : Blossom,’ a collaboration between Stone Music Entertainment, KT, and Genie Music, is a project where a large number of musicians representing the current era reinterpret and remake masterpieces released between the 1990s and early 2000s—songs that were loved then and continue to be loved today. A total of eight songs will be released over two days, on the 12th and 26th. Unlike typical albums, the physical album will be released exclusively as a cassette tape rather than a CD, which is expected to revive memories of the past while offering the unique fun of analog to the MZ generation, who are accustomed to digital.
The first title track of ‘Rewind : Blossom’ is ‘Doll,’ featuring a collaboration between Baekhyun and Doyoung. Originally released in 2001, ‘Doll’ was written and composed by singer-songwriter Kangta and performed by Lee Ji-hoon and Shin Hye-sung. It gained immense popularity among fans at the time as a unique collaboration between close singer friends.
Expectations are high as Baekhyun and Doyoung, considered top idol vocalists, reinterpret ‘Doll’ with a new sensibility for the first time in about 20 years. It is reported that they have created a song that revives beautiful memories of the past by showcasing their distinctive vocals and sweet harmonies.
Sandeul, who has recently emerged as a powerhouse on the music charts, took on the remake of the late Lee Won-jin’s ‘For Lovers Who Are Starting.’ Through this song, Sandeul delivers his emotional voice and explosive singing ability. Kang Minkyung participated as a featuring artist, further enhancing the quality of the track. The meeting of these two artists maximized the faint and poignant atmosphere.
Next, Yoo Seung-woo reinterprets ‘Rainy Street’ by Lee Seung-hoon, who was called a representative singer of folk songs, into a 2021 version. As Yoo Seung-woo has showcased unique sensibility and surprising musical capability despite his young age, it is expected that a result that will moisten the hearts of listeners has been born.
Decorating the final track, Urban Zakapa’s Jo Hyun-ah and Kwon Soon-il sing Park Ji-yoon’s ‘Fantasy.’ Park Ji-yoon’s ‘Fantasy,’ which drew attention for its unique and distinctive singing style at the time, is being newly released as a ‘male-female duet version’ through the sweet harmony of Urban Zakapa’s Jo Hyun-ah and Kwon Soon-il. This sparks curiosity about how ‘Fantasy’ will feel when infused with the colors of Urban Zakapa, who are consistently loved for their sorrowful and passionate ballads.
In addition to the four songs being revealed now, expectations are rising for the B-side tracks to be released on the 26th, featuring various artists such as IZ*ONE, Ha Seong-woon, Wonstein, and Park Moon-chi, and how they have reinterpreted the masterpieces in their own colors.
Meanwhile, the physical album will be released alongside ‘KASSETTE,’ a cassette tape player that embodies the essence of Newtro design with the sophistication and simplicity of a metallic silver color. ‘KASSETTE’ is faithful to the functions of a traditional cassette tape player while also featuring Bluetooth functionality. This ensures it is not just a simple analog player but increases accessibility and usability with various smart devices, embodying the meaning of ‘communication between the past and present through music,’ which is the purpose and concept of the ‘Rewind : Blossom’ project.
Furthermore, the composition of goods included in the physical album is diverse. It includes deco stickers to ‘decorate’ the cassette tape and player, photo cards featuring all participating artists, a retro-concept group poster, and practical goods such as a calendar and notebook. In particular, items with sufficient collectible value—such as limited skit tracks from the title track artists, video call-concept videos, and realistic stickers available only to album purchasers—are included. This is expected to draw a passionate response from fans who want to preserve not only the analog vibe but also a true Newtro sensibility and the new sides of the participating artists.
