Remake Project ‘Rewind : Blossom’ Cassette Tape Revealed!
‘Rewind : Blossom,’ a collaboration between Stone Music Entertainment, KT, and Genie Music, is a project where a large number of musicians representing the current era reinterpret and remake masterpiece songs released between the 1990s and early 2000s that were loved then and remain so today. A total of 8 songs were released over two days, March 12 and March 26. Unlike typical albums, the physical album is being released exclusively as a cassette tape rather than a CD, which is expected to revive memories of the past while offering the MZ generation, who are accustomed to digital, the unique fun of analog.
The first title track of ‘Rewind : Blossom’ is ‘Doll,’ featuring a collaboration between Baekhyun and Doyoung. Originally released in 2001, ‘Doll’ was written and composed by singer-songwriter Kangta and became a hit performed by Lee Ji-hoon and Shin Hye-sung; it received immense popularity from fans at the time as a unique collaboration between close singer friends.
Among these, Baekhyun and Doyoung, who are considered top idol vocals, have raised expectations by announcing they would reinterpret ‘Doll’ with a new sensibility for the first time in about 20 years. It is reported that the two created a song that revives beautiful memories of the past by showcasing their distinctive vocals and sweet harmonies.
Sandeul, who has recently emerged as a rising powerhouse on the music charts, took on the remake of the late Lee Won-jin's ‘For Lovers Who Are Starting.’ Through this song, Sandeul delivers his own emotional voice and explosive singing ability. Kang Minkyung participated as a featuring artist, further enhancing the quality of the track. The meeting of the two maximized the faint and affectionate atmosphere.
Next, Yoo Seung-woo reinterprets ‘Rainy Street’ by Lee Seung-hoon, who was called a representative singer of folk songs, into a 2021 version. As Yoo Seung-woo has showcased unrivaled sensibility and surprising musical capability despite his young age, it is expected that a result that moistens the hearts of listeners has been born this time as well.
Decorating the final track, Urban Zakapa's Jo Hyun-ah and Kwon Soon-il sing Park Ji-yoon's ‘Fantasy’ again. ‘Fantasy,’ which drew attention for Park Ji-yoon's unique and distinctive singing style at the time, is being newly released as a ‘male-female duet version’ through the sweet harmony of Urban Zakapa's Jo Hyun-ah and Kwon Soon-il. This sparks curiosity about what ‘Fantasy’ will feel like when infused with the colors of Urban Zakapa, who are consistently loved for their sorrowful and passionate ballads.
In addition to these four songs, expectations are high for how various artists such as IZ*ONE, Ha Sung-woon, Wonstein, and Park Moon-chi have reinterpreted masterpieces in their own colors for the B-side tracks.
The composition of goods included in the physical album is also diverse. It includes deco stickers for ‘decorating’ the cassette tape, photo cards featuring all participating artists, a group poster with a retro concept, and practical goods such as a calendar and a notebook. In particular, items with sufficient collectible value—such as limited skit tracks from the title track artists, video call concept videos, and realistic stickers available only to album purchasers—are included. This is expected to garner a passionate response from fans who want to preserve the analog feel, a true new-tro sensibility, and the new sides of the participating artists.
