- Singer-songwriter Kim Pil returns with his second full-length album [JOURNEY] after approximately 7 years.
If his first full-length album [yours, sincerely] was a time of fiercely offering comfort to the world, this second full-length album [JOURNEY] begins from the process of finally facing and understanding himself within those 7 years. There were still unfamiliar and confusing moments in between, but he decided to fully accept himself as he is now, rather than chasing a predetermined answer. He organically melts his deepened breath across a total of 9 tracks, conveying a temperature with long vitality, like music that stays in the heart unchanged for a long time and recalls one's original intentions, even amidst rapidly passing trends.
The thoughts that filled him during the work were concerns about music and life, and the various relationships that passed by. Amidst the unexpected distance and loss experienced between people, he looked into himself carefully and was finally able to find his center. The fierce time of acknowledging and accepting himself as he is, rather than forcibly covering up wounds, became the solid backbone of the work.
The nine stories flow clearly along the axis of emotional time. Starting with '5am,' which opens the door to the journey by facing the solitude and wandering thoughts of dawn when all noise has subsided, to 'a sign' containing a prayer and helplessness longing for a single signpost in the thick fog, to 'Mirror' which depicts inner wandering by shaking off inner thirst over a sensory and rhythmic sound, declaring that if it's a mirror that won't break, he'd rather erase it. Then passing through 'Act' (Cheok), which throws a sharp question at the world's gaze and pretense and explodes honest longing with dynamic energy, he arrives at the album's title track 'Life Is Life.' The title track 'Life Is Life' sings of a solid journey that doesn't stop walking, unbound by a set frame, with an honest and witty perspective that 'life is just life' even amidst the chaos of life with no answers.
This inner vortex expands into increasingly bright and solid energy, passing through 'Circle,' a brilliant sense of liberation affirming his whole self by stepping on the repeating cycle within life's round circulation, and 'Want to Be Free,' which lifts the weight of the heart and finally faces complete freedom atop a warm, lyrical folk melody. Following 'Fading Away (Feat. Park Ji-yoon),' which embraces the lingering afterglow of the dazzling moment of falling in love with the two artists' unique chemistry, and finally 'Old Friends,' which puts a warm period at the end with affectionate warmth toward the colleagues and fans who have stayed by his side for a long time after a long monologue of a journey. It ends filled with the warmth of sharing, after enduring time alone.
We hope these stories, honestly capturing the emotional journey faced over the past time, will quietly stay by the side of everyone who is silently enduring today on their own paths.
