WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn) 2nd Mini Album [WOOPS!]
‘WOOPS!’ WOODZ's second mini album that will deliver a surprise
The true image of WOODZ within a tracklist like a movie
The growth of all-rounder WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn), who wrote and composed all tracks following his first mini album
As we live our lives, are we not living as the version of ourselves that is least likely to be hurt among the many versions we possess? The wandering and emptiness that come within the process of discovering the true self;
In a confusing world where one can be cool but perhaps not cool, cute but perhaps cruel, and happy but perhaps not happy, shouldn't we each possess an inner self that can best understand our own hearts?
All-rounder WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn), who achieved a successful leap with his first mini album [EQUAL], has released his second mini album, WOOPS!. This second mini album [WOOPS!], with all tracks written and composed by WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn), is an album that began with the thought: "Doesn't everyone have various egos hidden within them?"
"The me that others see," "the me that I see," and the "true me" hidden deep inside that hasn't been revealed to the outside—who am I, and what do I look like? And the act of accepting and acknowledging that "true me" for oneself; these images have been captured in various forms in this album.
WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn) unfolded the theme of this album, which could have potentially been heavy, by comparing it to the flow of a movie. By setting up a fictional movie and unfolding the protagonist's past, present, and future through the tracklist, he expressed various themes through a story asking what choices the protagonist might have made.
The album title [WOOPS!] was created from the thought that when the protagonist of this movie finds themselves, a speech bubble of surprise saying ‘WOOPS!’ would have appeared. If many of the people listening to this album think of themselves as the protagonist of a movie and listen to all the tracks through their own method of interpretation, it will be an interesting album that yields a variety of different interpretations.
1. trigger (방아쇠)
Composed by WOODZ, NATHAN
Lyrics Written by WOODZ
Track Produced by NATHAN, HoHo
A country hip-hop genre song featuring rock-based guitar sounds, it is a song about the things I want to say to the people who hate me. I believe that those listening to this song likely have people who hate them as well. I hope this can be a song that speaks on their behalf. Rather than the meaning of delivering an aggressive message, I wrote this song hoping for a positive reaction from the track. To those who hated me but might like me now, or those who liked me but might hate me now, I hope that when the trigger is pulled, a positive bullet is embedded, just like the lyrics in this song.
*The character of 'trigger' has a personality of saying what they want to say. When thinking of this album as a cinematic image, this song possesses the personality of a movie protagonist whom the main character (the character of BUMP BUMP) admires.*
2. BUMP BUMP
Composed by WOODZ, NATHAN
Lyrics Written by WOODZ
Track Produced by NATHAN
A pop genre song featuring a retro rock sound, it is a track that continues from the first track, ‘trigger’.
Watching bumper cars at an amusement park brought to mind the image of fighting, and seeing people laughing even as they bumped into and fought with each other felt similar to how couples love one another. I wrote this song thinking that if you love someone, perhaps fighting could be enjoyed just like riding bumper cars. *In the outro of 'Trigger,' there is a crackling sound; this is set as the main character of a movie that the protagonist of 'BUMP BUMP' enjoys watching. It is a main character that the protagonist usually likes. While they want to act and live like the character in 'Trigger,' the reality is that the protagonist is exhausted by frequent fights with their lover and is left asking, "Why do we fight even though we love each other?"*
3. On my own
Composed by WOODZ, NATHAN, HoHo
Lyrics Written by WOODZ
Track Produced by NATHAN, HoHo
This is a pop song featuring a fun guitar loop. It is a song about someone in a relationship who has been accommodating the other person and feels they are losing themselves, and thus decides to do things their own way now. *The lyrics continue the story from 'BUMP BUMP,' and it is an interesting song in that the composition becomes calmer during the chorus.*
4. Thanks to
Composed by WOODZ, NATHAN
Lyrics Written by WOODZ
Track Produced by NATHAN
This is a pop song. This track contains the words I have wanted to say to the fans who have loved me. It started with the idea of what it would be like to turn the "thanks to" section at the back of an album into a song, and it consists of overall soft and fluffy lyrics. I wrote this song hoping that the people who love me are always happy, and wishing that every moment spent with me was beautiful and fragrant. *In terms of the album's dramatic narrative, this is a song where the protagonist, after the song 'On my own,' thinks, "Still, I was happy."*
5. Sweater (feat. JAMIE)
Composed by WOODZ, JAMIE, Pop Time, Kako
Lyrics Written by WOODZ, JAMIE
Track Produced by Pop Time, Kako
This is an R&B song written while thinking of my grandmother. It began with the desire to write a song with warm content that suits winter. It is a song that expresses the nostalgia felt from the scent of a sweater knitted by a grandmother in winter as a longing for the past or for someone. I created it thinking that the person appearing in the chorus is the grandmother. I wanted to evoke an atmosphere where, after going through hard times, simply seeing a grandmother's smile upon visiting her after a long time provides comfort. *As mentioned above, it is a story about a family member comforting the protagonist who is struggling.*
6. Tide
Composed by WOODZ, NATHAN
Lyrics Written by WOODZ
Track Produced by NATHAN
This is a song with an acoustic band sound. It is a track about how the reason we broke up was because of me, who was selfish and had so many things I wanted to do, and that I wish for your happiness regardless of who is by your side. It is a song with a dramatic flow, where the band sound that enters from the second verse is charming after starting acoustically. *It contains the content of the protagonist wishing for the happiness of their former lover and admitting that the breakup was ultimately their own fault.*
