Stray Kids will release the SKZHOP HIPTAPE '合 (HOP)' on December 13.
Starting with the mini-album 'ODDINARY' in 2022, followed by 'MAXIDENT', '★★★★★ (5-STAR)', '樂-STAR', and 'ATE', Stray Kids have successfully entered No. 1 on the US Billboard main chart 'Billboard 200' for five consecutive albums, reigning as 'global top artists.' They are now driving their momentum forward with a new experimental album that captures the hearts of fans worldwide with their original concepts and music.
'SKZHOP HIPTAPE' is named by combining 'SKZ' (the abbreviation for Stray Kids) and 'HIP-HOP.' It is an album featuring songs of a 'new genre unique to SKZ,' similar to a newly defined genre. The title of the first work in the SKZHOP HIPTAPE series is '合 (HOP),' which carries a double meaning: the harmony (合) achieved by the eight members of Stray Kids coming together, and 'HOP' taken from the English name of the hip-hop genre. Meanwhile, Stray Kids released the first teaser video on their official SNS channels on the 15th, announcing their comeback and raising fans' expectations.
Stray Kids exerted an explosive presence on the global stage in 2024. They graced the headlining stages of massive overseas music festivals, including 'I-Days' in Milan, Italy; 'British Summer Time Hyde Park' in London, UK; and 'Lollapalooza Chicago' in Chicago, USA. They were also named winners at prestigious international music awards such as the '2024 People's Choice Awards' and the '2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards.' Furthermore, they shone as the second K-pop group ever to perform at the 'American Music Awards' and are currently successfully conducting a new world tour that started brilliantly with four consecutive sold-out shows at the KSPO DOME in Seoul. This tour boasts its largest scale yet, with performances scheduled at a total of five stadiums, including the Singapore National Stadium, Melbourne Marvel Stadium, Sydney Allianz Stadium, Kaohsiung National Stadium, and Bangkok National Stadium.
Recently, they expanded their horizons by participating in the song 'Come Play,' the theme song for Season 2 of the Netflix animated series 'Arcane,' based on the 'League of Legends' (LoL) universe.
In particular, Stray Kids are enjoying widespread worldwide popularity with their latest release 'ATE' and title track 'Chk Chk Boom,' including a No. 1 spot on the 'Billboard 200.' 'ATE' surpassed 3 million cumulative sales according to the Circle Chart, achieving triple million status, and earned its seventh overall Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) by exceeding 500,000 units in US single and album sales. Additionally, as of September 30 (US time), it was the best-selling K-pop album of 2024 in the US and ranked 4th globally, following Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department,' Travis Scott's 'Days Before Rodeo,' and Billie Eilish's 'HIT ME HARD AND SOFT.'
'Chk Chk Boom' reached No. 49 on the Billboard 'Hot 100,' a key indicator of mainstream popularity in the pop market, breaking the group's own record. After becoming the first 4th generation K-pop boy group to enter the chart with the title track '樂 (LALALALA)' from '樂-STAR,' Stray Kids added more significance by charting for a third time with the English single 'Lose My Breath (Feat. Charlie Puth)' and 'Chk Chk Boom.' Along with ranking No. 1 on the French SNEP top album chart, No. 1 on the Apple Music Japan top album chart, and No. 1 in the digital EP category of China's largest music platform QQ Music, the music video for 'Chk Chk Boom' surpassed 100 million views on YouTube, maintaining the title of '4th generation K-pop boy group with the most music videos over 100 million views.'
Proving their powerful global popularity, Stray Kids set a rare record as the first K-pop artist to surpass 1 million combined album sales in the US in 2024. Carrying this momentum, they will wrap up the year brilliantly by presenting the well-made and refreshing work, SKZHOP HIPTAPE '合 (HOP).'
