They agonized more intensely over the sound and crafted the message more beautifully. Through their new mini album, MONSTA X sings about various forms of love, showcasing their distinct musical color and deepened thoughts.
Having demonstrated limitless possibilities through their 10th mini album [NO LIMIT] released in November 2021, MONSTA X sings about the theme of 'love' in their new mini album [SHAPE of LOVE]. From love for oneself to love for MONSTA X and their music, and love for their fans, the album captures various forms of love, showing the matured insight of MONSTA X while embodying their clearer and evolved unique color.
The title track 'LOVE' is produced by member Jooheon and conveys the meaning of love as told by MONSTA X. Starting with Hyungwon's fatal narration, "What do you think love is?", 'LOVE' interprets catchy R&B guitar sounds with an old-school feel and a raw yet groovy hip-hop bass in a modern way, emitting MONSTA X's characteristic intense color and energy.
In particular, following the 9th and 10th mini albums, Jooheon took on the role of title track producer for this album as well, further deepening MONSTA X's unique musical color. The lyrics depict a love that cannot hide feelings of affection like a pure child and a desire to give everything. By returning to the emotions of their younger selves, they added the meaning that they have always been loving in that same spot while building love for their fans. While they expressed love for their music through their signature intense sound, they succeeded in depicting all forms of love by embedding love for their fans through the lyrics.
The music video also captures the unique narrative of MONSTA X, who have built love for their fans and their own music. Using an awards ceremony concept, it symbolically expresses the steps MONSTA X has taken, and the combination of powerful synchronized choreography, each member's visuals, and objects representing love provides an immersive experience that is impossible to look away from.
Not only Jooheon, but Hyungwon and I.M also demonstrated MONSTA X's outstanding musical capabilities by participating in the lyrics, composition, and arrangement of most of the B-side tracks. From Hyungwon's self-composed 'Burning Up,' which likens the start and excitement of love to a spark; 'Breathe,' which expresses the moment of falling in love; 'Wildfire,' which expresses the pain of distorted love; Jooheon's self-composed 'I Love You,' containing a sincere message to the fans; to 'AND,' where I.M's heavy message resonates—the diverse tracklist expressed according to the theme of 'love' is organically intertwined, adding to the listening pleasure. In particular, 'Wildfire' was co-worked by Hyungwon, I.M, and Jooheon, allowing listeners to feel the MONSTA X-style musical teamwork.
Having debuted in 2015 and established themselves in the K-pop scene with an unrivaled presence, MONSTA X has received great love, gaining global popularity across domestic and international borders. Now entering their 8th year since debut with their 11th mini album, MONSTA X is ready to return an even greater love than what they have received through their own way of loving. Expectations are high to see what achievements the continued growth of MONSTA X—now equipped with a mature message alongside differentiated music and intense performances—will bring.
