CRAVITY The 8th EP [ReDeFINE]
– The more they shake, the clearer the name becomes
CRAVITY, who has steadily built their completeness through solid performances and teamwork, presents their current selves most vividly through their 8th mini-album [ReDeFINE]. Until now, CRAVITY has expressed emotions of fear, longing, and growth in their own unique way. This album takes a step further in that flow. From the anxiety discovered only after stepping out into the world, to a heart that wavers more easily than expected, and the moment of deciding to move forward once again. [ReDeFINE] does not capture a youth that shines because it is perfect, but rather the face of a youth that continues to move forward even while shaking.
The title [ReDeFINE] is ultimately close to the act of "rewriting who I am now." It is a process of not staying in a fixed image, but constantly picking oneself up and redefining oneself. Not a person who never breaks, but a person who finds their place again after breaking. This is where CRAVITY stands in this album. While the overall atmosphere is dreamy, the emotions contained within are clearer than one might think. Anxiety and recovery, hesitation and determination, unfamiliar fear and familiar passion flow naturally within a single album.
– Where the end has passed, AWAKE once more
The title track ‘AWAKE’ is the song that most clearly shows the center of this album. It captures the process where the moment thought to be the end actually becomes another beginning, and where one finally meets a clearer version of themselves only after shaking. The intense beat based on dark synth-pop and the addictive chorus firmly hold the density of the song, and the composition that changes the mood in each part convincingly portrays a "state of continuously waking up" rather than a "single awakening." The fact that Serim and Allen participated in the lyrics is also noteworthy. This song tells us most accurately what emotional flow CRAVITY is currently passing through.
The music video also powerfully pushes the atmosphere of the song. The movement of running without stopping, the moment of crossing a boundary, and the performance completed in a sacred space intertwine, making 'AWAKE' seem not just like a concept song, but like a scene of CRAVITY pushing themselves upward. The trajectory the camera follows and the sense of unity in the group performance are also impressive. The 'awakening' spoken of in this song is closer to a way of proving oneself through continuous movement than a grand single moment.
– From excitement to heat, from confession to sincerity
The B-side track 'Hello-Goodbye' opens the album by depicting the moment when a familiar daily routine suddenly begins to look different. A house beat that thumps like a heartbeat and a dreamy sound set the mood from the first scene. The following 'FEVER' densely carries emotions that grow hotter the deeper one falls, and 'Adore' increases immersion through the contrast between a restrained start and an energetic chorus.
The latter half becomes closer to true sincerity. 'Love Me Like You Do' is Taeyoung's first self-composed song, honestly building up remaining emotions and regrets over strong guitar and drums. And the final track, 'Spring, with You,' is a fan song containing the feelings of their 6th debut anniversary, with Wonjin and Allen participating in the lyrics and composition, quietly showing where CRAVITY is ultimately headed. A conclusion that reaches the fans once again after a story of shaking passionately and passing through fiercely. The reason this album is good lies in this sense of balance. Strong songs are strong, warm songs are warm, yet the overall flow remains undisturbed.
– An album that best explains the current CRAVITY
Above all, [ReDeFINE] is more meaningful in that it is released in April, the month CRAVITY debuted. Rather than meaning a return to the beginning, it is closer to the meaning of showing their current selves again while remembering the heart they had at the start. Therefore, rather than organizing the past, this album shows the future of CRAVITY more clearly. Not a team without fear, but a team that does not stop even while knowing fear. A team that turns even the moments of shaking into their own story. [ReDeFINE] is an album that shows where CRAVITY is now, while most convincingly proving how far they can go in the future.
