PURPLE KISS 1st Mini Album / Into Violet
PURPLE KISS is a 7-member girl group consisting of Ji-eun, Na-eun, Chae-in, Yuki, Ire, Sui, and Hwiseo. Their name is a compound of "Purple," representing a musical color created by the gathering of each member's diverse personalities—much like the color purple, which is a harmonious blend of various colors—and "Kiss," a motif used to express the power of love in many stories. It carries the meaning of delivering love to many people through a diverse range of musical colors, like the color purple.
Fitting the reputation of RBW, a cradle for recognized talented artists, PURPLE KISS possesses the qualities of a complete idol group, boasting outstanding vocal and dance skills, as well as participating in songwriting, composing, and choreography creation even before their debut. Through the two pre-debut singles released previously, they demonstrated their ability to handle various concepts, drawing attention as one of the most anticipated acts of 2021.
Their first mini-album [INTO VIOLET] is themed "Into Violet." It carries the meaning that PURPLE KISS will light up a violet dream through music to deliver hope to those living lives covered in achromatic colors, as well as their ambitious aspiration to dye the world purple and become leaders in K-POP.
This debut album is a culmination of all of RBW's capabilities, led by Korea's top producer Kim Do-hoon, along with producers Park Ji-young and Kang Ji-won. Through long training, the members participated in their debut album with high-level skills in vocals, dance creation, as well as songwriting and composing. The title track "Ponzona," which means "poison" in Spanish, expresses PURPLE KISS's ambition to dye the world with their charm, while simultaneously depicting how listeners will become unable to escape them, much like the spreading of a poison.
Additionally, "Intro: Crown," which was pre-released through a powerful performance video, expresses the delicate yet intense identity of PURPLE KISS, where deep-diving sounds create a languid atmosphere intertwined with heavy emotions. This signals the beginning of PURPLE KISS's unique path, refusing generalization and breaking the established formulas of girl groups that had continued like an unspoken law.
For the title track "Ponzona," the master of the music video world, Director Hong Won-ki of Zanybros, took the helm to produce an alluring and glamorous visual beauty, putting more effort than in any other work to express PURPLE KISS's first message to the public.
In addition, the album includes "Skip Skip," which wittily rejects hasty judgments of oneself—like skipping feeds and ads on social media; "Hello," which unfolds a breakup situation where a casual greeting becomes a desperate message to someone they miss; and "Period," which captures PURPLE KISS's unique sensibility with all members participating in songwriting and composing. Along with "My Heart Skip a Beat" and "Can We Talk Again," released through pre-debut digital singles, they fascinate listeners in violet while traversing various genres.
In an achromatic world where courage and hope are hard to find, PURPLE KISS aims to breathe violet vitality through their existence and music. Using their experimental attitude and musicality backed by solid skills that permeate the entire album, PURPLE KISS will present a new standard for K-POP girl groups.
