Nam Woo-hyun
- 'Tree Rings' engraved through music
- Marking the 9th anniversary of his solo debut, symbolically capturing a time of growth and change, as well as a promise
《 Tree, Ring, and Tree Ring 》
'Tree Ring,' referring to the growth rings of a tree, are circles that reveal a tree's maturity. This 5th mini-album, consisting entirely of self-composed tracks, not only showcases the musically matured side of the 'Tree' known as Nam Woo-hyun but also carries the meaning of a promise to continue growing musically and reaching out to Inspirit and Saessak, much like the 'Ring' that symbolizes him.
The fact that every song is self-composed by Nam Woo-hyun, who has already solidified his position as a complete singer-songwriter, also holds deep symbolism.
Along with the overall storytelling of the album, the music—which feels as though every track contains the stories of Inspirit, Saessak, and all of us—demonstrates sincerity while revealing the deep contemplation and effort that passed through Nam Woo-hyun's hands stitch by stitch.
The title track of the album, filled with these hand-crafted songs, is 'Only Straight.'
From its title, 'Only Straight' symbolizes Nam Woo-hyun and is a song that delivers an explosive and refreshing coolness, showing that his passionate sincerity is at its strongest. The message of choosing to go only straight toward one single person delivers both hot and cool energy to the listener on a sweltering summer day. In particular, the intense guitar sound in the intro and interlude evokes a racing scene from a youth movie, and this energy is physically expressed through the music video. In the music video, Nam Woo-hyun personally plays the role of a baseball pitcher, and actress Song Ji-woo—who left a deep impression as the young Choi Hye-jeong in the drama and in —participates as the female lead. The music video further enhances the charm of 'Only Straight' and provides a unique sense of fun by blending a baseball and time-travel concept with animation scenes.
The B-side tracks, which provide a deep resonance, are also sufficient to move the heart.
'3-si-dol (I have to go back after 3 minutes),' a story about not doubting love and promising to return even if one must go back after three minutes.
'After Meeting You,' which conveys the words of a love where everything was truly on the line, and 'I'll Quietly Hold You,' which contains a message of comfort to all those who laugh off the act of enduring as if it were as natural as breathing.
And finally, 'It's Harsh,' which was pre-released through the Arbor Day concert and has already taken a place in our hearts as a cry to enjoy life even though the world is harsh only to me; the emotion and meaning of these songs can be felt intact.
The 5th mini-album [Tree Ring], where you can feel the promise and the tree rings of a single tree.
And like a tree under dazzling sunlight, a scene of a passionate summer and a scene of a cool, refreshing summer unfolding before us.
Let us look forward to the music of Nam Woo-hyun, who will grow infinitely more, while experiencing all those scenes through this album.
