Violinist KIM MIYOUNG
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
SONATAS & PARTITAS for VIOLIN SOLO
BWV 1001-1006
Violinist Kim Miyoung
Complete recording of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin!
An album that highlights the diversity of Baroque music interpretation.
The violin and classical guitar ensemble Duo A&U (Art & Union) previously received great acclaim for releasing two albums with Sony Classical in 2013 and 2018. In 2020, member and violinist Kim Miyoung released a CD after six years of patient work, completing the recording of Bach's complete solo Sonatas and Partitas—a lifelong item on her bucket list. As a performer with her own philosophy and as a human being, she has managed a consistent musical life.
Evaluated as a violinist possessing sophisticated technique, deep musicality, lyricism, and a diverse range of tones, she is a performer who moved to Europe early in her career and strove intensely to ensure that her life and music remained inseparable. Since her student days, she has consistently held a passion for Bach's music in her heart, performing his works at every recital. In this album, she has captured the journey of seeking a serious shift in interpretation while delving deeper into Baroque music alongside her growing experience.
Furthermore, as a performer who has always had a great interest in art, it is intriguing that she included abstract works by the painter Kim In-joong, well-known as the "Painter of Light," to help listeners infer or imagine the message of light contained within Bach's music.
Born in Seoul, violinist Kim Miyoung graduated from the Geneva Conservatory of Music and the Bern Conservatory of Music. Upon returning to Korea, she served as the first violinist of the Kumho String Quartet and the concertmaster of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra. She then returned to Europe to study musicology at the Sorbonne 4 Graduate School in France, expanding her horizons of interpretation as a performer, before returning to Korea in 2007. Since 2010, she has been active domestically and internationally with Duo A&U and is pouring her passion into chamber music as the music director of the Daejeon Chamber Orchestra.
