SM Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as SM) is launching ‘SMTOWN 2022 : SMCU EXPRESS,’ a comprehensive content project where fans can experience performances, albums, and exhibitions all at once.
This ‘SMTOWN 2022’ project is based on the concept of ‘SMCU EXPRESS.’ It expands the artists' worldviews—which Executive Producer Lee Soo-man has newly named the ‘Metaversal Origin Story’—based on the SMCU (SM Culture Universe). To provide a comprehensive experience of the future content in the metaverse as envisioned by Producer Lee Soo-man and SM, the project will present an album and an exhibition prior to the performance.
‘SMTOWN LIVE 2022 : SMCU EXPRESS@KWANGYA,’ which will take place on January 1st, is a culmination of the performance content SM pursues. SMTOWN LIVE has set various records since 2008 by being held in major cities worldwide and officially launched SM's giant virtual nation, MUSIC NATION SMTOWN, through a virtual nation proclamation ceremony in 2012. This upcoming event will be set at the 'SMCU EXPRESS STATION,' a virtual space called 'KWANGYA' where all artists gather.
In particular, this concert was planned as a free performance to comfort and bring hope to fans worldwide who are exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and it is expected to be a great gift to global music fans. It will be broadcast worldwide via YouTube, the newly launched Beyond LIVE dedicated global platform, and the LG U+ Idol Live app/web.
Prior to this, ‘2021 Winter SMTOWN : SMCU EXPRESS,’ to be released on December 27th, is the first SMTOWN winter album in 10 years since 2011. Featuring SM artists active worldwide, the album will include songs by individual teams as well as diverse member combinations that have never been seen before. Pre-orders are available starting today (the 10th).
Additionally, the media content exhibition ‘SMTOWN EXPERIENCE : PLAY@KWANGYA,’ starting on December 30th, will utilize the LED screens located on the first floor of SM's new Seongsu building. It is expected to attract the interest of music fans by playing video content that allows them to see the entire project at a glance.
Meanwhile, the concept poster for ‘SMTOWN 2022 : SMCU EXPRESS’ released on the official SMTOWN SNS accounts on the 10th captured attention by revealing the artist lineup, signaling the start of this special project where performances, albums, and exhibitions can all be experienced.
