Surrealism, a letter written from somewhere filled with sensitive senses, [2]
Bang Yongguk, the former leader and producer of the boy group B.A.P, has returned with his second album [2], following his first solo album [BANGYONGGUK] released in 2019. The new album [2] contains the second story unfolded by the musician Bang Yongguk, who has lived, is living, and will live through unpredictable changes from the moment of his birth. Within the broad keyword of "life," his straightforward manner of speaking—confessing as honestly as possible about the things he loves and hates, and the things that bring him joy and sadness—permeates the six tracks of this album.
[2] is also a trace of Bang Yongguk's efforts to escape his narrow world across various fields, from art to socio-culture, while taking a break from music. Among these, surrealism was a subject that stimulated his sensitive nerves. However, instead of recklessly destroying the form of the music he had previously created, he added new stories to Bang Yongguk's unique sensibility, which is often described as "almost dark, serious, and gloomy." It is full of mysterious, strange, and sexually charged symbols. Based on the nature of surrealism, which always possesses the identity of anxiety, the physical album has been divided into two versions according to the way it is artistically expressed.
Between music that is heard and music that is seen, Bang Yongguk intends to create dizzying cracks, much like the various facets of the world he currently lives in. While he likes the stability provided by the number '2', he conversely possesses the will to destroy this stability and add a challenge of '1' to his life, which was '1', thereby creating a confusion of '2'. If the essence of surrealism is to dismantle the human cognitive system, Bang Yongguk may want to use this second moment of transition to dismantle the world he has lived in, is living in, and will live in.
The time spent discarding and adding, subtracting what was added, and filling the empty spaces in each track lives vividly in his new album [2]. And Bang Yongguk, who meticulously crafted [2] as a link between his surreal self and the self living with feet planted in a recognizable world, lives within it.
