XLOV 1ST EP ALBUM ‘UXLXVE’
With their first mini-album ‘UXLXVE’, XLOV seeks to redefine negative thoughts, emotions, and the stereotypes associated with their expression through XLOV's own unique message.
Taking the original word “UNLOVE,” they have applied the witty wordplay style they have consistently used since their debut by replacing the ‘N’ and ‘O’ with ‘X’. This focuses on the meaning of ‘double negation’—just as multiplying two negative numbers results in a positive—opening up the possibility of turning negatives into positives. They further aim to convey that ‘we do not always need to live while suppressing our NOs,’ ‘thoughts or emotions that come across as negative have the right to be expressed as they are,’ and that by meeting other beings with similar thoughts, ‘everything can eventually conclude as a positive or a correct answer.’
XLOV's bold challenge is once again clearly captured in this album. Various thoughts, mirroring the hearts of all beings who live in constant conflict with various emotions, are unfolded through diverse genres and stories. XLOV's insistence on not limiting themselves to a single genre, and their identity of ‘freedom,’ is expressed through various musical genres and styles, accompanied by the ambition that ‘we, as we are, become a genre in ourselves.’ Furthermore, with the original producing of member ‘Umuti,’ who is the leader and producer, they seek to move one step closer to the public and their fandom, EVOL.
The tracks include the main title track ‘Rizz,’ a Hip-hop R&B track based on 808 trap sounds; the sub-title ‘Biii:-p,’ created with intense bass and wide synths combining elements of hyperpop; ‘Scent,’ an R&B number with a touch of sexiness over a sticky, dense track; ‘Dirty Baby,’ which expresses a voice longing for personal freedom through the genre of Trap R&B over a sexy and dreamy groove; ‘kiss and say goodbye,’ an XLOV-style ballad that expresses a mature breakup through dreamy and beautiful piano sounds and melodies; and the final track ‘Drip Drip,’ a harmony of exciting UK garage rhythm drums contrasted with a calm acoustic guitar. Among these, the main title ‘Rizz,’ the sub-title ‘Biii:-p,’ and the first ballad ‘kiss and say goodbye’ showcase the overall harmony and artistic sensibility achieved through Umuti's lyrics.
