- MONSTA X releases 3rd full-length album ‘FATAL LOVE’
- MONSTA X's thriller chasing a 'fatal love'... 'Love Killa'
- Scene-stealers of global K-pop... The optimal moment, a reasoned change, and infinite growth
MONSTA X seeks another transformation and growth with their 3rd full-length album, 'FATAL LOVE.' Having proven their powerful global influence in music markets such as the US and Japan, they deliver deeper music and performances through strengthened teamwork and unconventional attempts.
This 'FATAL LOVE' is filled with the tension and thrill of suspense, akin to watching a thriller movie. While previous albums primarily focused on keywords of empathy and comfort, this album sings of a man's fatal temptation that penetrates secretly. Furthermore, it captures attention with a story progression reminiscent of a thriller film. It is also noteworthy that the center of gravity for the sound and performance has shifted.
If a sharp, powerful performance was previously the signature representing MONSTA X, this time they provide a captivating feel with a relaxed approach that focuses only on the core while dialing back the intensity. While maintaining their unique team color, the aggressively developed new style is sufficient to provide the highlight of this album.
Six cruel and beautiful 'Love Killas'... The irresistible charm of 'fatal love'
The title track 'Love Killa' is a song where one can simultaneously feel their existing intensity and unique style, serving as a track that represents MONSTA X's reasoned change and growth. It sings of the temptation of love that one wants to win by throwing everything away, and it provides a cinematic feel by stimulating the visual and auditory imagination. The harmonious delivery of dark sounds and emotional melodies is also impressive. It was composed and produced by Willy Wicks and Brother Su, who have worked on MONSTA X's title tracks several times, with lyrics by Seo Ji-eum, Joohoney, and I.M. The strange mixture of various emotions chasing a fatal love will provide a new experience.
In the music video, the members steal the spotlight by portraying six cruel and beautiful 'Love Killas.' Using killer characters from movies as a motif, they reinterpreted them through MONSTA X's own mise-en-scène. Through contrasting colors such as black & red and black & white, images of light and darkness, and a structure that hides and secretly reveals emotions, they show facets of love such as addiction, love-hate, and deviation.
MONSTA X, who have shown high levels of participation in every album, have once again put their names on the songwriting and composing credits for several tracks. Joohoney, who recently released the mixtape 'PSYCHE,' included his self-composed songs 'BEASTMODE' and '대동단결' (Great Unity), and I.M also included 'NIGHT VIEW,' which he created himself. Hyungwon, who is also active as DJ H.ONE, showcased his capabilities as a producer by including 'NOBODY ELSE,' a song he participated in writing, composing, and producing for the first time since debut. As each member has expanded their own territory through various activities, this album is expected to be an opportunity to clearly demonstrate MONSTA X's musical growth.
The album, packed with 10 songs, is full of large-scale sound. 'Thirst,' a sensual and danceable Latin/pop genre track, delivers an enjoyable listening experience by describing emotional fluctuations, and 'Thriller,' a core song of the album's theme, gives a futuristic feel with an orchestral composition and future sounds. On the other hand, it is structured to allow for diverse listening experiences by including 'Guess Who,' which harmonizes a dark and lyrical atmosphere, as well as easy-listening tracks like 'Last Carnival' and 'Sorry I’m Not Sorry.'
MONSTA X, who have challenged themselves at every moment, plan to prove the reinterpretation of their signature, the expansion of their style, and their aspect as artists who have grown one step further through this album. The story condensed over the past six years will provide a thrilling experience, like solving a mystery.
