CLASS:y releases 1st Mini Album Y 'CLASS IS OVER'
From Global Audition, “We customize our own!” New concept customization K-pop group launches
Generation Z K-pop rookie CLASS:y (Won Ji-min, Kim Seon-yu, Myung Hyung-seo, Hong Hye-joo, Kim Ri-won, Park Bo-eun, Yoon Chae-won) will release their first mini album Y 'CLASS IS OVER' on May 5, 2022.
CLASS:y was born through MBC's global K-pop girl audition 'After School Excitement', which ended in February 2022. This seven-member group with an average age of 16 and unlimited growth potential attracted the attention of K-pop fans around the world, taking first place in the non-drama topicality category for 11 consecutive weeks at the time of the broadcast.
CLASS:y is a team name that combines ‘CLASS’ (Class is over), which means ‘I finished class (after school excitement)’, ‘:’ (colon), which gives the meaning of a new beginning (chapter), and ‘Why (=Y) don’t we enjoy the same same but different music of CLASSY?’, which means ‘Let’s enjoy CLASSY’s music that is the same K-pop but on a different level.’ It contains the ambition that ‘Classi will go beyond auditions and captivate K-pop fans around the world with music of a different level.’
CLASS:y's worldview (UNIVERSE) is transformed and expanded in various ways with the motto 'We customize our own'. It was noted that all members are members of Generation Z. We compete in the global K-pop market as a group that customizes each time through active communication with the characteristics of Generation Z, which is both a consumer and a producer.
CLASS:y named their first album '1st Mini Album Y' and uniquely chose all songs as titles. By including the unknown Y (unknown unknowns) rather than X, which is represented by the unknown, the unpredictable and spectacular worldview of CLASS:y was predicted.
The title of the debut album is 'CLASS IS OVER' and it contains 5 songs that embody CLASS:y's personality and identity. The representative title song is 'SHUT DOWN', a unique genre of K-Wood (K-Pop + Bollywood) with powerful energy and strong restraint. It is a dance song with an explosive chorus and impressive ad-libs, expressing CLASS:y's will to show off their new selves to the fullest. It was produced by hitmakers Ryan Jeon and Ryan Jeon Sadan.
