Girls in the Park 5TH MINI ALBUM
‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON'
Girls in the Park, who have received much love from many fans for their original worldview and high-quality music, are releasing their 5TH MINI ALBUM ‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON’ 1 year and 2 months after the activities for ‘BAZOOKA!’, the title track of their 4th album 'the Keys'. The members contributed significantly to the planning and production of this album. Member ‘Miya’, who participated in the 4th album 'the Keys', once again drew the album cover and internal art, and main vocals ‘Soryoung’ and ‘Lena’ participated in writing the lyrics for the B-side tracks. Furthermore, for the title track ‘Like It Hot’, most of the members provided input for the lyrics, and the song and album introductions were written by leader ‘Soryoung’ herself. In addition, the members' opinions were reflected in various other areas; since the members, who know the Girls in the Park worldview better than anyone, directly provided ideas and participated, this album is expected to be even more meaningful to the members themselves and to their fans, ‘Gru’, who have stayed by their side. While previous Girls in the Park albums captured their own unique stories, this album unfolds a story closer to reality—or the stories of those of us living in reality—through another version of Girls in the Park encountered in the world beyond the moon and their inner selves. “The fairytale is over. The reality is not over yet.”
The fairytale is over, but reality is not over yet. “Maybe it was us.”
Maybe it was us.
The "back side of the moon" mentioned in the album title ‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON’ refers to the shadowed back part beyond the moon, but it also carries another meaning. It represents the imperfect side of the moon—loneliness, wounds, and pain—that no one paid attention to, contrasting with the image of the moon that always reliably guards the night sky. Using the uncommon theme of the back side of the moon as the main concept, the songs in this album capture the inner emotions of ‘me’ that could not be spoken and the numerous versions of ‘me’ within, through various styles and stories. The title track of this 5th mini album, ‘Like It Hot’, is a song that well-captures the dreamy lyrics and melody characteristic of Girls in the Park's music over an exciting beat; it is a dance song with a charming atmosphere that shifts as the calm beat suddenly transforms into a house beat during the chorus. In addition, the album features a total of 6 songs, starting with the future bass genre intro track ‘Burn’, which carries the meaning of ‘burning away all of my past self and being reborn as a new me’; ‘I Can’t Breathe’, a rhythmical dance song with an impressive dreamy atmosphere that is distinctly different from Girls in the Park's previous music and possesses a gender-neutral feel rarely seen in girl groups; ‘e i e i o’, a unique pop dance song featuring a funky bass line and standout satirical lyrics; ‘Starry Night’, an R&B trap genre song that highlights the members' vocal tones by melting the theme of ‘loneliness in a crowd’—which many modern people suffer from—into Girls in the Park's own sensibility; and finally, ‘I sing (lalala)’, a medium-tempo R&B style song with impressive honest and direct lyrics.
Starting with an intro track—something not included in previous albums—this album is a result of great effort to showcase a changed image by attempting new musical styles. Through this album, listeners will be able to experience the musical capabilities and unique storytelling of GWSN, who have fully embraced a charm of a different color than before. In the songs included in this album, it can be noted that the figure of "you" is continuously mentioned through lyrics that feel like speaking. Here, "you" refers to the singer themselves as well as the person listening to the song. By unfolding their stories through music within a unique worldview, GWSN has indirectly conveyed messages of comfort and hope. In this album, utilizing the unusual theme of the far side of the moon, they tell a story about "another me met in a different world I have never been to." By unfolding the previously unseen side of GWSN and their inner emotions more realistically through music, they provide empathy to the listeners and deliver a direct message of comfort. As this album contains the story of "another me in another world" rather than the image GWSN has shown so far, many changes were attempted in the musical aspects, giving a unique feeling different from before. There is great anticipation for how much GWSN's further expanded musical spectrum will grow and what diverse colors they will showcase.

1. Burn
Lyrics by SWIN LEE, Ruddie Miller
Composed by SWIN LEE, Oneul
Arranged by Oneul, SWIN LEE
A song about identity, something anyone might worry about at least once. It captures the inner cry of someone who struggled between the "me" created by suppressing and shaving themselves down to fit the world or the gaze of others, and the "me" who is a bit crude and rough as they are, eventually realizing that the one who made them suffer was themselves; it is a plea to just be me, to leave me as I am, rather than fitting into the world or others.
2. I Can’t Breathe
Lyrics by Seo-ryung, Lena, SWIN LEE
Composed by SWIN LEE, Oneul
Arranged by Oneul, SWIN LEE
Everyone has likely experienced conflict caused by uncontrollable emotions that they are drawn to unconsciously, even when trying to rationally ignore and control them. This song expresses those emotions through the image of being confused between the "real me" and "another me inside." By using a mirror as a medium to show the conflict between the "real me" and the "me in the mirror," the song directly shapes abstract emotional changes, depicting the story more realistically and vividly. The atmosphere and effects that feel like scene transitions throughout the song evoke "Jekyll and Hyde," adding to the song's charm by making it feel like watching a musical.
3. Like It Hot
Lyrics by ZNEE, SWIN LEE
Composed by Ryan Jhun, Scott Russell Stoddart, Betsa Collins
Arranged by Ryan Jhun, Scott Russell
Even the moon, which always emits a brilliant and dazzling light, has a far side.
And while hiding that side, the "moon" always strives to show only a bright appearance. This song expresses the message, "I can embrace and love even your imperfect, hidden side where the shadows fall. I want to share everything that only you knew and suffered through alone, and in doing so, I want to be with you as 'us.' So please, tell me about your hidden side," using the phrase "Like It Hot" as a confession of love.
4. e i e i o
Lyrics by Seoro, SWIN LEE
Composed by SWIN LEE, Oneul
Arranged by Oneul, SWIN LEE
Using the word "eieio" from the American children's song "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" as a theme, this track unfolds with addictive lyrics and a cheerful melody. Its charm lies in its slight comedic touch and a bouncy, four-dimensional feeling, as if you are inside a cartoon. The phrase "eieio," which repeats in the chorus, consists of simple pronunciations, making it easy for anyone to sing along and hum. Perhaps you, too, will find yourself unconsciously humming along after listening to the song. "eieiooooooo..."
5. Starry Night
Lyrics by Seoryeong, Lena, SWIN LEE
Composed by SWIN LEE
Arranged by SWIN LEE
This song expresses the hearts of people who suffer from inner isolation while living surrounded by others in a mass society, using the night sky and stars as a metaphor. It compares the heart of "me," who feels even lonelier because of those lights despite being mixed among countless shining stars in the vast night sky, while simultaneously delivering a hopeful message. It suggests that one day, I will meet someone who can resolve this loneliness and frustration, or who will endure this dark night sky together. It is a song that sends a message of comfort to the countless other stars who may be suffering through anguish in the pitch-black darkness.
6. I Sing (lalala)
Lyrics by Nody Cika (JMG), SWIN LEE, Lena
Composed by Klozer, Nody Cika (JMG)
Arranged by Klozer
"Everyone has times like that. Everyone has those feelings."
With lyrics that sound like someone humming alone while reminiscing about the past, this song quietly expresses the hardships suffered alone that could not be told to anyone. The honest and direct expressions, as if truly pouring one's heart out to someone, allow the listener to immerse themselves more deeply in the emotions. A unique point is the lyrics written in Japanese in the rap part, which is uncommon but provides a unique feeling without being jarring. To all those living as if forcibly holding onto unhealed wounds and a heart that hasn't fully grown, having to suddenly become adults in a fast-paced world, this song indirectly conveys the message that "everyone has times like that, and everyone has those pains and wounds in their heart," thereby providing empathy and comfort.
