- The bold cry of BADVILLAIN, ‘We will rise, so carve BV into your mind’
BADVILLAIN announced the birth of a new K-POP hero by releasing their 1st Single Album [OVERSTEP] on June 3rd. Having been shrouded in mystery until now, BADVILLAIN is the first girl group presented by Big Planet Made Enter, making a glamorous debut by presenting a powerful, intense image and a new vision. The group BADVILLAIN consists of seven members: Emma, Chloe Young, Huey, Ina, Yunseo, Bin, and Kelly. As all-round artists showcasing powerful rapping, unrivaled vocals, and proven, unconventional performances, they redefine the meaning of the group name 'BAD' and 'VILLAIN'. Beyond the adjective 'Bad' meaning 'not good,' BAD is an abbreviation for 'Be Aggressive for Desire,' presenting the direction of BADVILLAIN. While 'VILLAIN' is often used in modern times to denote a 'selfish person' or 'someone who does not fit a mold,' BADVILLAIN's 'VILLAIN' aims to show 'people who move only for their goals' and 'children who made the best choices for themselves.' Additionally, they added meaning to their identity by denoting it as 'Born to be Visionary' (BV). Through the first letter 'B' of 'Born' and the first letter 'V' of 'Visionary,' they express the emergence of 5th generation artists leading a K-POP scene never seen before.
BADVILLAIN's 1st Single Album [OVERSTEP] contains a total of three songs, including the title track 'BADVILLAIN' of the same name as the group, and is an album that shows the emergence of BADVILLAIN breaking free from the molds created by the world and crossing standards and lines. The title track 'BADVILLAIN' is an impressive song featuring rapping that candidly expresses confidence in their goals and an addictive hook. Furthermore, it includes 'Yaho (BADTITUDE),' which is about achieving goals without being bound by the rules of the world, and '+82,' which conveys that they can succeed unlike others, allowing a glimpse into the diverse and progressive side of BADVILLAIN. In particular, members Chloe Young and Ina directly participated in the rap-making for '+82,' raising expectations for their musical growth potential.
This confident and bold image of BADVILLAIN becomes even clearer through the promotion trailer and the music video for their debut song 'BADVILLAIN.' It provides justification by building up the answer to the question, 'Why did BADVILLAIN have to become villains?' as well as what they want to do and the messages they want to show after becoming villains. Additionally, talented choreographer Casper—who produced choreography for Taemin's 'Guilty,' EXO's 'Ko Ko Bop' and 'Cream Soda,' Baekhyun's 'UN Village,' and Aespa's 'Savage'—and choreographer Kany, who has worked with prominent domestic and international artists such as Beyoncé, SHINee, and VIVIZ, collaborated for BADVILLAIN to help present a high-quality performance that possesses both popularity and artistry.
The performance of the title track ‘BADVILLAIN’ showcases the members' powerful stage presence and overwhelming charisma, while the inclusion of a mega crew consisting of a large number of dancers demonstrates a dynamic and grand scale. In particular, the spectacular mega crew scene that serves as the climax of the music video maximizes the infinite potential and powerful energy of the BADVILLAIN members, amplifying expectations for the future they will transform. OVERSTEP; finally, BADVILLAIN has crossed the line. Having crossed this line, they will become the villains and new heroes of K-POP who act without fear to achieve their dreams and goals. Furthermore, rather than settling for a world created by someone else, we look forward to them becoming ‘Born to be Visionary’—that is, BADVILLAIN—who create a new world themselves despite an unknown future, and write a new history in the music industry.
1. BADVILLAIN
A hip-hop-based dance song featuring an impressive, intense one-chord beat that allows BADVILLAIN's unique performance to stand out. The weight of the song can be felt through the melodic main riff that leads the track from the intro and the grand, classical orchestra, while the repetitive hook and catchy, distinctive rapping showcase the diverse charms of the members. The song carries a message of moving forward with confidence, driven by their own desires and goals rather than the gaze of others; as the song shares the same title as the group, it offers a glimpse into the group's overall color.
2. 야호 (BADTITUDE)
A hip-hop track with a visible Trap rhythm that captures the ear from the start with intense rapping and allows the listener to feel the groove. The fun and freshness of the song can be felt through the addictive hook drop and catchy point sounds. It is a track that showcases BADVILLAIN's ambition, with lyrics about crossing the lines of the world's frames or rules to achieve their goals.
3. +82
A Jersey Club style hip-hop dance song that showcases BADVILLAIN's identity through '+82', the national calling code of Korea. It wittily captures selfishness related to one's own desires, and the repetitive rhythm of the attacking beat and sensual synthesizer is impressive. It is a song where you can see the energetic side of BADVILLAIN through the piercing rapping and the performance presented in the latter half of the track; members Chloe Young and Ina participated in the songwriting, adding further meaning.
