IVE THE 2ND ALBUM
- IVE's next story, starting from 'I' and leading to 'Us'
Through their second full-length album, IVE expands their horizon. Having previously proven themselves with a focus on 'I', IVE now extends that gaze to 'Us'. This album is neither a declaration to become stronger nor a choice to repeat a familiar image. It is the result of contemplating what more IVE can connect from their current position.
This is closer to a reignition than a reset. Rather than trying to make a fire that has already been lit larger, they examine how far that fire can spread. If 'REVIVE' was a movement to awaken the senses, '+' is the direction in which those senses continue without remaining stagnant. In this album, IVE places themselves at the center, while demonstrating that this center can embrace more emotions and perspectives.
- A way of reconnecting messages of empathy
If the previous work presented 'empathy' as a keyword, this album expands that emotion into a structure of relationships. It is a question of whether empathy can move beyond a single theme and become a connection that links people together. In this album, IVE broadens the narrative of 'IVE = I' into a relationship of 'IVE + Public = Us'. Here, 'Us' is not a single face. From on-stage and off-stage, present and past, to IVE and the gaze that watches them—it is a state where different positions and emotions are loosely connected.
This album does not define this relationship. Instead, it leaves it open, creating room to enter through music and imagery.
- Two beginnings opening from different directions
At the starting point of this album lie two doors of different natures: the pre-release track 'BANG BANG' and the title track 'BLACKHOLE'. While the two songs do not share a single narrative, they pose the same question from different angles: Where and in what way is the current IVE moving again?
'BANG BANG' announces the start with immediate energy. The fast tempo, linear rhythm, and clear chorus deliver an unwavering momentum. This song is closer to a signal than a boast. It is a confirmation of their state—that they can still move sufficiently and are ready to start again. As a pre-release track, 'BANG BANG' serves to awaken the rhythm of the entire album.
On the other hand, the title track 'BLACKHOLE' slows down the speed and creates a center. A 'black hole' is a space of nothingness where extinction and birth coexist, symbolizing both the end and the beginning. The 'flame' repeated throughout the song functions not as destruction, but as a spark of life that opens a new world. The sound is more condensed, and emotions are pulled inward. In 'BLACKHOLE', IVE stands at a point of redefining their existence, forming a center rather than simply rushing forward.
These two songs contrast but do not clash. Speed and density, diffusion and concentration. This album shows the current state of the team, capable of embracing these opposing sensations simultaneously.
- A musical texture that cannot be explained by a single face
This album does not converge into a single image. Instead, songs of different genres and moods are organically arranged, naturally broadening the range of expression that IVE can handle. From tracks that push energy over a strong beat to those that organize emotions at a low temperature. In this album, IVE asks 'how far can we express' rather than 'what image should we have'.
Each song exists independently, but the keywords penetrating the entire album are clear: expansion, connection, and balance. Rather than reinforcing a specific image, this album focuses on showing the range of possibilities that the current IVE can attempt.
- An image of rebirth expanded through video
The music video for the title track 'BLACKHOLE' visually implements a space where extinction and birth coexist. Within a space close to nothingness, it creates a circular narrative where the end becomes the beginning. This intuitively expands the message of rebirth contained in the song and symbolizes the moment IVE redefines their own existence.
The music video for the pre-release track 'BANG BANG' captures IVE in a more linear and energetic manner. Urban spaces, fast editing, and aggressive performance bring the movement and rhythm of the current IVE to the forefront. This video declares the start through speed rather than explanation, and through attitude rather than message.
The two music videos, with their different textures, three-dimensionally complete the direction this album seeks to convey. From the end to the beginning, from 'I' to 'Us'. IVE unfolds this connection through music and video simultaneously.
- The meaning of the second full-length album that chose connection
This album is closer to an attitude than a declaration. The confidence that they can continue in more directions without stopping at their current position. The choice to expand that image in various directions rather than fixing a completed image. A method of broadening the periphery of expression while maintaining the center. This second full-length album is a present-tense answer to the question IVE posed to themselves.
It does not speak of grand changes. Instead, it calmly shows how far the current IVE can go. A story starting from 'I' and leading to 'Us'. This album is the starting point of that journey and a current record that makes one look forward to the next scene.
