Hyukoh's 5th album: With Love
After Hyukoh's [24: How to find true love and happiness]
After a year, they returned with a new album [With Love]. While Hyukoh's work method so far has been to move toward a pre-determined musical direction, the work on this album was done in a very process-oriented manner. Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, Bjork, Kanye
At Real World Studios, a historic real world studio in England where West and others have worked.
This album was recorded with instruments and vocals recorded and mixed in Berlin with Norman Nietzsche, Hyukoh's long-time collaborator.
Hyukoh moved closer to the analog sound he had been actively pursuing since [23], and in terms of format, he wanted to remove everything except the most necessary elements to create an album. This album, which all members are proud of as the most satisfying result in terms of sound, can be said to be a record of the musical dialogue and process shown by Hyukoh, a band in their 6th year of debut.
‘With love’, not ‘26’
“Love is
The more you know, the more difficult and complex it is, so Hegel cannot be solved by reason.
Although it exists in the form of what is said to be “the strangest contradiction,” love still, uniquely, reaches out to us as we groan in the valley of contradiction and absurdity.
It's almost the only alternative. That is why we repeatedly ask questions about the nature of love.” _Jang Seok-ju,
The title of Hyukoh's album, which had been based on his age when working on albums such as [22], [23], and [24: How to find true love and happiness], has changed.
As the number in the title symbolizes, Hyukoh, who has been singing about the various emotions and thoughts of youth, now expands the horizon of interest and sympathy to various problematic phenomena in our society on a daily and political level and practical methods to improve and overcome them.
we
Problems such as discrimination and hatred, entrenched superiority, generational conflict, and environmental destruction that we experience every day are the result of contemporary social structures that were built quickly and abnormally without reflective thinking. Hyukoh does not come up with grandiose catchphrases that subvert and improve this pattern, but presents ‘love’ as a daily practice that can be done starting today.
Various forms of love have been expressed in the lyrics and music videos of ,
Rather than sending a direct and clear message in this album, Hyukoh, who supported it, revealed this in his attitude towards and working with music. The ‘love’ presented by Hyukoh as an alternative to the contemporary consumption method of quickly consuming and easily objectifying everything is not something that is created by media or trends to lightly like and pass on the object given in front of you, but is also another word for a deep affection for an object that one has independently discovered and the happiness that is found through it.
Song composition with connected structure
The album [With Love] consists of a total of 6 songs, and all the songs are the title, and each of the 6 songs is also one song. The Hyukoh members who created the album say that it is safe to view the six songs, which have unique titles such as , , , , , as a single 27-minute song. Additionally, the 6 songs included in
We put a lot of effort into mastering it so that you can enjoy it continuously in the order in which it is included in the album. All 6 songs have their own unique charm.
However, in this [With Love], I hope that the entire song, which has a single narrative and flow, will be completed over a long period of time.
