Seola, WJSN's first solo debut in 8 years, reveals unexpected charm with a band sound
WJSN's Seola is making her solo debut after 8 years. Having showcased her captivating visuals and vocals through WJSN and the unit WJSN THE BLACK, while steadily expanding her musical spectrum through songwriting and composing, Seola is now officially launching her solo career.
Her first solo single, 'INSIDE OUT,' is an album deeply infused with Seola's unique sensibility, discussing her perspective on emotions. She candidly explores various feelings that are difficult to define with a single explanation—much like how joy and sadness must always coexist. Furthermore, the album carries the message that the presence she has shown as WJSN's Seola and the diverse images she will show as a solo artist are ultimately 'one.'
The title track 'Without U,' drawn from her deep inner self, provides a condensed glimpse into Seola's new world. A band-pop style song that blends emotional acoustic sounds with Seola's solid vocals, it depicts a determination to break free from pain and be reborn. Additionally, Seola not only pulls off various styles and concepts she hasn't shown before but also conveys a deeper emotional line through vocals that are musically more detailed.
As such, the three songs, including the title track, focus on Seola's new style. While 'Without U' expresses honesty through a very candid tone, 'Let’s Talk (Loneliness)' calmly sings of the loneliness deep within, as if speaking to someone. 'NO GIRL,' a collaboration with Brother Su, is a UK garage genre track talking about breakup and longing, intensely delivering another side of Seola's sensibility. Along with this, Seola demonstrates her capabilities as a singer-songwriter, having written the lyrics for all songs, including the title track, and participating in the composition of the two B-side tracks.
Having revealed her long-saved musical sensibilities through her own story, let's look forward to Seola's journey as a solo artist evolving into an all-rounder musician.
