CRAVITY The 8th EP [ReDeFINE]
– The more it shakes, the clearer the name becomes.
Cravity, which has steadily built up perfection through solid performance and teamwork, shows the present most clearly with its 8th mini album [ReDeFINE]. Meanwhile, Cravity has been expressing feelings of fear, longing, and growth in their own way. And this album goes one step further in that trend. Anxiety that you only realize after you go out into the world, a heart that is more easily shaken than you think, and even the moment you decide to move forward again. [ReDeFINE] does not capture the face of youth that shines because it is perfect, but the face of youth that continues to move forward despite being shaken.
The title [ReDeFINE] is ultimately closer to ‘rewriting who I am now.’ The process of rebuilding yourself and redefining yourself each time, rather than staying in a certain image. Not a person who doesn't break down, but a person who finds his/her place again even after falling down. Cravity in this album stands at that exact point. The overall atmosphere is dreamy, but the emotions contained within it are clearer than you might think. Anxiety and recovery, hesitation and determination, unfamiliar fear and familiar passion are naturally connected in one album.
– In the place where the end has passed, AWAKE again
The title song ‘AWAKE’ is the song that most clearly shows the center of this album. The moment you thought was the end actually becomes another beginning, and it contains the process of seeing yourself more clearly only after being shaken. The strong beat and addictive chorus based on dark synth pop firmly maintain the song's density, and the composition that changes the mood for each part convincingly conveys the feeling of 'a state of constant reawakening' rather than 'one-time awakening'. It is also noteworthy that Serim and Allen participated in writing the lyrics. This song most accurately tells us what kind of emotional flow Cravity is currently going through.
The music video also powerfully pushes the mood of this song. As the non-stop running movement, the moment of passing the boundary, and the performance completed in a sacred space come together, 'AWAKE' is not just a concept song, but seems like a scene where Cravity is pushing themselves. The trajectory the camera follows and the sense of solidarity in the group performance are also impressive. The 'awakening' this song talks about is closer to a way of proving yourself by continuing to move, rather than a grand moment.
– From excitement to enthusiasm, from confession to sincerity
The song 'Hello-Goodbye' opens the album by depicting the moment when one day the familiar daily life suddenly begins to look different. House beats that pound like a heartbeat and dreamy sounds create an atmosphere from the first scene. 'FEVER', which follows, densely conveys emotions that become hotter as you get more into it, and 'Adore' increases immersion through the contrast between the restrained beginning and the energetic chorus.
The second half becomes more heartfelt. 'Love Me Like You Do' is Taeyoung's first self-composed song, and it honestly builds up remaining emotions and regrets over strong guitars and drums. And the last track, 'Spring, with You', is a fan song that celebrates the 6th anniversary of debut, in which Wonjin and Allen participated in writing and composing the lyrics, and quietly shows where Cravity is ultimately heading. After a heated and intense story, the ending reaches the fans again. The reason why this album is good is because of this sense of balance. A strong song goes strong, a warm song goes warm, but the overall flow is not disturbed.
– A chapter that best describes Cravity as it is now.
Above all, [ReDeFINE] is more meaningful in that it was released in April, when Cravity debuted. Rather than meaning to go back to the beginning, it is closer to meaning that you will show yourself again while remembering your initial feelings. So, rather than organizing the past, this album is an album that shows Cravity’s future more clearly. Not a team without fear, but a team that knows fear but doesn't stop. A team that turns even the shaking moments into their own stories. [ReDeFINE] is an album that shows where Cravity is now and most convincingly proves how far they can go in the future.
